The framework syntax
It breaks up a framework, by how its name binds what follows and how what it collects is kept and reached. It has 5 element types and 13 elements, and a framework described in it is one choice of elements from each type.
Instances
- Museum of Vestigial Desire: the framework the syntax is read from: a museum, begun in 2012, of desires that have outlived their objects
Element types and elements
stance holds one essential
How the framework's name binds what follows.
- pronouncement
- the name means what is pronounced: a specification that binds whatever follows
- description
- the name means what was found by careful observation and analysis
pool holds one essential
What the framework collects.
- uniform
- a fixed content pool with one type of content, which becomes a body with a presence of its own
rooms holds several optional
The containers the pool is kept in, each with its own condition for entry. Optional: keeps what the framework collects in containers, each with its own condition for entry, so what enters one need not enter another
- sanctuary
- ideas allowed to persist without evidence of their having any value
- shrine
- desires that were cultural forces and are not any more
- functions
- where function breaks
- books
- annotations on books, which are social beings
- analysis
- later, quieter essays
- offices
- a stage for the public performance of an institution
access holds one essential
How widely the framework is open, against how intensely it is held: the more the access, the less the intensity.
- wide
- open to anyone, held less intensely
- narrow
- open to few, held more intensely
count holds one essential
Whether the framework knows how many it reaches.
- not known
- no number is kept, so it can be anything, zero or infinite
- known
- a number is kept
Left out
Voice: the Museum speaks as itself and through its columnists, but no text of it sets two voices against each other, so voice is not yet a type. A pool other than a uniform one: the Museum's texts name only the uniform side. Whether rooms belong to every framework or only to the Museum stays untested until a second framework is described here.
Described in it
Nothing is described in it yet.
The syntax as data: framework.json. It is read from the Museum of Vestigial Desire each time this site is built, so the two never differ.
